CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A male juvenile was arrested Friday after threats closed Carbondale Area High School and led others to ramp up security.
The juvenile, arrested in Savannah, Georgia, is accused of making multiple online threats targeting schools in NEPA.
Although the threats were deemed uncredible, districts like Carbondale Area, Scranton, and Valley View are using the incident as an opportunity to take extra precautions and review their protocols.
Administrators are focusing on ensuring they are fully staffed with security and working closely with law enforcement to guarantee student safety.

In a statement to 28/22 News, Scranton School District Superintendent Erin Keating states:
The District has made significant investments in safety and security, including the creation of a dedicated Safety and Security Department. Key enhancements include hiring armed school safety officers, adding patrol vehicles, installing Evolv Technologies weapons detection systems, making capital improvements, upgrading communication and video surveillance systems, and introducing body-worn cameras for our officers

Valley View School District's number one priority is the safety of our students and staff. We have a School Resource Officer (SRO) present in each building and maintain close collaboration with the Chiefs from each borough to ensure additional officers are available whenever necessary.

The juvenile charged with making the threats to Carbondale remains in a juvenile detention center as the investigation continues.
