STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Stroudsburg Borough officials say they are considering a ban on single-use plastic carryout bags for some businesses.
Borough officials are asking for residents' input on a possible plastic bag ban that will impact businesses across Stroudsburg.
The ban would include plastic bags at the point of sale and use in pickup or delivery sales.
Officials stated as an alternative, businesses can provide paper bags, have reusable bags for purchase, or encourage customers to bring their own reusable bags.
"I think it would be something good for here so if they don't do it, it kind of would be a little disappointing. I like the idea of not having litter all over town. I like the idea of you know recycling and stuff like that, so I just feel like reusable bags would be a much better option for the town," stated Alexis Hults, a sales associate at De Novo Clothing Exchange.

The plastic bag ban is an effort to reduce the use of wasteful single-use bags and their negative impact on the environment.
"There is biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable plastic bags that we use. Obviously, you know, we want to do whatever the borough asks us to do and whatever makes it easier on all businesses, so hopefully they'll have a good decision on that," explained Nicole Rodriguez, a server at The Cure Cafe.
Areas throughout Pennsylvania, and nationwide have already enacted similar bans.
