Artists, art organizations awarded ARPA grants

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The city of Scranton awarded over $300,000 in grants to 19 visual and performing artists and arts organizations as part of its American Rescue Plan funding.

The grants aim to support artists impacted by the pandemic, including theater companies, musicians, and dancers. Preference was given to Scranton-based groups.

"Almost $350,000 to local artists who have been struggling to get back up from the pandemic, these organizations these artists have worked so hard they're so dear to us here in Scranton they're part of not just our culture but our economy, and it's so important that we support them," said Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.

Some recipients include the Philharmonic Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Scranton Civic Ballet, and the Scranton Jazz Festival.
