SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Jimmy Buffet said it best: "It's five o'clock somewhere," and on Thursday, the NEPA Youth Shelter and the Green Ridge Club welcomed dozens to Margaritaville.
The night included a cheeseburger buffet bar, a french fry bar, games, and raffles.
It had a tropical theme with Hawaiian shirts, shorts, flip-flops, and grass skirts.
Struggling families feel the love in Kingston
This is the shelter's biggest fundraiser sponsored by several area businesses.
"It was a struggle sometimes to be a teenager. It's a struggle, I feel like for almost everyone, regardless of age, but when you're a teenager, I feel like you're in a very delicate situation, you're still trying to figure out the world, figure out who you are, and sometimes, you don't have the resources, your parents don't have the resources that everyone, especially teens, might need," said Eric Spivak who received help from the shelter five years ago.
Our very own 28/22 news reporter Paola Giangiacomo served as the emcee and on Thursday, center officials announced they will move into a new location at the beginning of 2025.
