LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a project that will connect Route 115/309 Southbound to Interstate 81 Southbound.
According to PennDOT, the project will replace three existing bridges within the I-81 and Route 115 interchange, realign three Route 115/309 Southbound and Route 8015 ramps, as well as construction of a new ramp that will connect Route 115/309 Northbound to I-81 Southbound.

PennDOT says they anticipate two-lane traffic to be maintained on I-81 and Route 115 during most of the project, but there will be times when traffic will be shifted to the shoulders of the road, moved to one lane, or have the road closed completely.
PennDOT does note that, when the roads are closed, the detour route will utilize Exit 2, Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.
The project will include new guide rails, drainage, signing, lighting, and other related construction according to PennDOT.
PennDOT says nighttime construction will be used to alleviate traffic impacts and the project will last approximately three years, which will be late 2027.
