HANOVER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Hanover Area football stadium will be closed for the remainder of the season as repairs go longer than expected.
On Thursday, September 19, Nathan Barrett, superintendent of schools, announced the clean-up and restoration efforts of Memorial Stadium will require more time and there will be no home games for the rest of the year..
In part, Superintendent Barrett stated;
In an effort to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and the community it has been determined that a full restoartion of the locker room facilities may be necessary to fully ensure the safety and well-being of all."
Nathan Barrett, Superintendent of Schools,
The district had undertaken a project to renovate Memorial Stadium for its 100th anniversary.
Part of that renovation involved the removal of existing paint and prime of which at least one layer contained lead, stated Superintendent Barrett.
School officials said removing the lead paint layer involved using chemical and abrasive means and, while removing the paint, lead dust migrated into different surrounding areas.
