Residents react to President Zelenskyy's Scranton visit

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — As you can imagine, there is quite a buzz on the streets of Scranton with a world leader in town.

It was an eventful day in Scranton as Multiple road closures started right at 9:00 a.m. with a heavy police presence, all for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to make his way into the Electric City to thank employees at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant.

Though the traffic patterns may have caused some headaches, folks were excited to know a world leader made a stop in Scranton.

"It's great. It gives Scranton a nice atmosphere I should say, people should be honored that he's here. It's great that someone like him comes here," said Ron Kitlas from Scranton.

"Ukrainians are appreciative people and it is so important to him to extend that appreciation personally, and I honestly believe that that is what's behind his visit here today. He's grateful for the support from the American people and the fact that we do have the ammunition plant here," stated Vera Kowalkerwsun from Clarks Summit.

"We're here to support Ukraine and President Zelenskyy," Laryssa Salak from Scranton added.

Zelenskyy left Scranton around 4:45 p.m. and all roads are back open at this time.
