Pa. voter registration deadline coming soon

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — State officials are reminding Pennsylvania voters the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming November Election is fast approaching.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt states October 21 is the last day voters will be able to register for the upcoming election on November 5.

"Every eligible Pennsylvanian who is not yet registered to vote still has the chance to do so before the October 21 deadline," Schmidt said.

Increasing security in Luzerne County for Election Day

For someone to be able to vote, they must meet the following requirements.

A citizen of the United States for at least one month before the election

A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which the individual plans to register and vote for at least 30 days before the election

At least 18 years old on the day of the election

Eligible voters will have the chance to cast their ballot for state and federal government positions this coming November.

Members of the commonwealth can register to vote online, by mail, or by visiting in person at the following areas.

Their county voter registration office

County assistance offices

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program offices

Armed Forces recruitment centers

The county clerk of orphans` courts or marriage license offices

Area agencies on aging

County mental health and intellectual disabilities offices

Student disability services offices of the State System of Higher Education

Special education offices in high schools

Americans with Disabilities Act-mandated complementary paratransit providers

Department of Transportation (PennDOT) driver and photo license centers

Pennsylvanians already registered to vote can check their registration status online and, if needed, update their voter record with changes to their address, name, or party affiliation.

Registered voters can also request an absentee or no-excuse mail-in ballot online and must be received by the county elections board by 5:00 p.m. on October 29.

Completed mail ballots will not count if they are not received by county election offices by 8:00 p.m. on November 5.

The department's website offers online voter registration, county boards of elections contact information, and a polling place locator and is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.
