Recognizing college athletes in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local college baseball team and several area athletes were honored for their talents in high school and college sports.

Dozens gathered at the Luzerne County Court House to recognize the Misericordia Baseball Team, and two Wyoming Area grads football players Dominic Deluca and track and field star Marc Minichello.

In June, the Misericordia Cougars took home the hardware in the NCAA Division III Misericordia Cougars College Baseball World Series, beating Wisconsin Whitewater 10-5.

Also in June, Marc Minichello won his second career NCAA Javelin Championship.

The event also honored Dominic Deluca, Penn State's current linebacker, and one of the Nittany Lions best ranked defenses.

"Not just the achievements on the field, but the incredible spirit and character that our champions embody. Each of these remarkable young men represents the very best of Luzerne County and we cannot be prouder to call them our own," Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo said.

Several law officials spoke at Tuesday night's event congratulating all the athletes on their accomplishments.
