PD: High school principal facing failure to report charges

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a high school principal is facing charges after failing to report an accusation of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.

42-year-old Mark Murphy of Clarks Green is being charged with failing to report or refer the allegations.

The police investigation started back in January.

Police say they were tipped off by a concerned parent from the school, who reported allegations of a teacher and a student having a sexual relationship.

During the investigation, police learned several teachers reported these allegations to Murphy who was principal at the time.

Police say he would ask the teachers not to report, and insist he do it himself, even making threats.

A search warrant reveals Murphy conducted interviews with teachers about the allegations and stored the notes in his office closet.

Police say Murphy failed to meet his responsibility as a mandated reporter.

He was released on unsecured bail, and his preliminary hearing is set for October 15.

No charges have been filed against the teacher in question, and their employment status is unknown.
