Three charged with gun trafficking in NEPA

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Three people are facing charges after police say they were part of a drug and gun trafficking scheme.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, the following three people were indicted on Tuesday by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking and firearms charges;

Naquann Simmons, 30, of New York, New York

Eva Kelly Smith, 31, of Scranton

Eugene David Deininger, 50, of Hanover Township

Police said in September 2022, Simmons and Kelly went to a gun store in Wilkes-Barre Township and put false information on an application where two firearms were obtained.

Five arrested for alleged Walmart retail theft

In August 2023, Simmons and Deininger went to a gun store in Plains Township and gave false information on an application for two firearms, as stated in the release.

Investigators noted Simmons used the firearms to help with drug trafficking schemes.

The maximum penalty for this offense is lifetime imprisonment for Simmons and 10 years imprisonment for Smith and Deininger, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
