Flags fly in Third Annual Bless Our Vets Flag Display dedicated to US military members

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two Berwick churches are holding their Third Annual Bless Our Vets Flag Display to honor local veterans.

For a $5 donation, people can dedicate a flag to current, retired, or deceased members of the US Military.

Each flag will have a card on it with the veteran's name, rank, and branch, and will be displayed in front of St. Joseph's and St. Mary's churches in Berwick.

Anyone interested in buying a flag or donating can stop by one of the churches or mail it in.

Organizers say they expect to display more than 500 flags and raise roughly $5,000, which will be donated to the vet center in Mcbride Memorial Library.

"One, it helps us remember the sacrifices they made for us, and it also helps educate the public on the fact that there are men and women today standing in our defense," said St. Joseph's and St. Mary's Church's Pastor Reverend William Barbee.

Donations will be accepted through November 11, which is Veteran's Day.

On Veteran's Day, The Bless Our Vets Ceremony will be held at the Berwick YMCA at 11:00 a.m.
