SHAMOKIN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man fired multiple shots at another man who was allegedly attempting to harm him over the weekend in Northumberland County.
According to the City of Shamokin Police Department, on October 5 officers were called for a report of shots fired at the intersection of North Market and East Commerce streets.
Officers obtained security camera footage that showed a black Dodge Charger approaching a man in the 100 block of West Commerce Street. The driver is seen motioning for the man to come closer when the passenger, Jose Rodriguez-Melendez, 26, of Shamokin, pointed a gun at the man, as stated in the affidavit.
The man then took out a gun and fired four shots at Rodriguez-Melendez causing the driver to flee the scene, police said. While the car was fleeing the man fired four more shots at the vehicle, court documents report.
Man dies after police involved shooting
Investigators say the driver made a U-turn at the intersection of Independence Street and let out a juvenile who was in the car. Then Rodriguez-Melendez fired one shot while passing Commerce Street, officers stated.
Rodriguez-Melendez was later found at his home and was arrested without incident. He faces the charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police did not mention if other charges have been filed against those involved in this incident, or if there were any injuries.
