Dorrance Township haunted house raises money in fight against breast cancer

DORRANCE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's time for our Halloween House of the night! On Tuesday, 28/22 News was in Dorrance Township, Luzerne County, where a local display is helping raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer research.

"We just love Halloween, as you can tell, so, we just thought it would be fun to raise some money for the Think Pink Foundation, which helps women with cancer in Luzerne County," Kim Davis from Dorrance Township said.

"Everyone wants to give us money for our electric bill, but we're just crazy, and we don't want that. But my husband came up with the idea a couple years ago to give the money to our foundation. So there's three boxes located anywhere. We also have our QR codes for Venmo and PayPal. So they're more than welcome to just give a couple of bucks and help out somebody and enjoy the fun," Davis explained.

When asked how long it takes to prepare the display, Davis responded saying they start months in advance.

"Now we've been starting in July, and our goal is October 1 to be lit and ready," Davis added.

"It makes us feel good, like we accomplished something, the best, honestly, is when people drive down the road, the kids come down the road, the bus driver stops and lets them look out. People just give us the thumbs up or, it's just awesome to see. Everyone loves it," Davis continued.

You can check out the house until November 4.

This year, they hope to raise $4,000.
