Investigation causes lockdown at West Scranton High School

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials say a report of two unknown people inside the West Scranton High School caused a lockdown Tuesday.

Officials with the Scranton School District say they activated the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and were on lockdown due to a security concern on Tuesday around 1:00 p.m.

District officials stated the school administration was told two unknown people, who were not students, entered the building with a group of students.

The school was put on lockdown and the Scranton Police Department, along with school security officers responded to the scene.

Through surveillance video, police said they were able to see that the suspects entered through the metal detectors and soon it was learned that the suspects had left the building.

Scranton School District noted that this incident is not related to an incident that occurred over the weekend, but did not specify what that incident was.

This is an active police investigation.
