Man shot during robbery attempt in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating a shooting where they say a man was shot in the back by another man while meeting to buy a vehicle.

According to the Scranton Police Department, on October 12, officers were called to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City for a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Two accused of multi-state organized retail theft ring

Police say they learned the victim, Domenick Velez, 27, of Passaic, New Jersey, was in Scranton to meet with an unidentified man to buy a vehicle earlier that morning.

Velez stated when he met with the man who was selling the vehicle, the man took out a gun and tried to rob him, officers reported. Investigators say Velez ran and the suspect shot him in the back.
