Flowers handed out to spread kindness

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One Lackawanna County flower shop is spreading kindness one flower at a time by taking part in a nationwide event.

28/22 News has more about how positivity was shared by "petaling it forward."

Aimee Walker is all smiles walking down Courthouse Square in Scranton Wednesday. As the owner of ‘Your Beautiful Flowers’ shop, she has her handy cart full of flowers behind her setting up at the corner of Biden and Washington Street.

But these bouquets aren’t for sale. It is part of ‘petal it forward', so it’s just an act of kindness for you to give back to somebody else!

Freeze Warning issued across eastern Pennsylvania

Running up to cars and stopping people on the sidewalks Walker was determined to bring a smile to everyone’s face, all for the ‘petal it forward’ national florists campaign.

"They started nine years ago just because studies show that flowers bring happiness and they wanted us to help you guys understand the joy that we get every day," said Aimee Walker, owner, of Your Beautiful Flowers.

That’s why she wrapped up 500 bouquets and roses to be given out for free, just cause.

"This is just a little piece of happiness that we get to share," said Walker.

As part of the event, those in Courthouse Square were given two separate flowers and then spread along the kindness by giving one away.

Many were surprised when receiving the meaningful gift.

"Happy to get flowers!" said Paul Bolock, Harrisburg

"I do think that positivity really does empower most people and I think that we should spread it more and kindness should be spread more too. So this was really kind,” said Hannah Snyder, Scranton.

For some, tears of joy and hugs were shared along with being a bright light on a dark morning.

“A lot better. I’ve had a rough day, so this definitely made it a lot better,” said Emily Durkin, Moosic.

And to keep the movement going, those who took flowers already knew who they were passing it along to.

“My grandma,” said Durkin.

“I’ll definitely give it to one of my bosses because she loves roses,” said Snyder.

“I feel great and I’m going to give one to my mother-in-law and one to my aunt so I’m sure they’re going to be thrilled as well,” said Bolock.

Your beautiful flowers say they gave out all 500 flowers in less than two hours!
