Cartwright, Bresnahan take to debate stage in Wilkes-Barre

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Incumbent Matt Cartwright took to the debate stage to battle his opponent Republican challenger Rob Bresnanan in the 8th Congressional District.

WVIA hosted the debate at King's College in Wilkes-Barre.

Both were asked questions Tuesday night about what they would do in office if elected for the 8th District, which includes Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, and Scranton.

Both candidates spoke about their concern for the state's ongoing economic crisis and border policy.

"The truth is we do have a broken immigration system in this country right now and it needs to be fixed this is one of the areas where I broke from the White House," Cartwright said.

"From day one of this campaign, my philosophy has been an economy that works, borders that are secure, and communities that are safe. Life is unaffordable and I'm running to make life affordable again for northeastern PA," said Bresnahan.

28/22 News I-Team Reporter Andy Mehalshick served as a panelist in Tuesday's debate.

If elected, this would be Cartwright's seventh term.

It's one of the many races that could decide the balance in the House.
