Man charged with theft from Kingston mayor's vehicle

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is in custody after police say he gained entry and stole from a Luzerne County mayor's vehicle.

According to Kingston Police, officers were called to South Welles Avenue around 4:15 a.m. when a resident stated "someone broke into the mayor's truck".

Upon arrival, officers say they witnessed the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Jarod Hospodar, looking into an unoccupied vehicle.

Man allegedly assaulted officers after ignoring roadblock

Officers state that Hospodar ignored orders to stop and show his hands, and fled into an alley.

After a short chase and the deployment of a Taser, officers say they were able to subdue Hospodar.

The truck was stated to belong to Kingston Mayor and former Kingston Police Officer Jeffrey Coslett, who said he found the suspect's cell phone inside his vehicle.

Police say a search of the suspect revealed a multitool, flashlight, a "methamphetamine pipe", and a small bag containing suspected crack cocaine.

Hospodar faces several charges including theft from a vehicle, resisting arrest, drug possession, and other related charges.
