SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A very special celebration took place Thursday afternoon in Lackawanna County.
A big milestone calls for a big celebration and that's what took place on Thursday at Allied Terrace. Mercedes Mchale celebrated her 100th birthday with some friends and family, also she recalled some of the best moments of her life.
"The wonderful things that happened to me were my marriage to my wonderful husband, the birth of my son, the birth of my two grandchildren, and my wonderful daughter-in-law she's like a daughter to me," said Mchale.
As she enjoyed her special day, she was also showered with plenty of gifts.
"I got this and this and four floral arrangements, more clothes, cashmere sweaters, jewelry spoiled rotten," added Mchale.

When it comes to the question of everyone's mind as to what the secret is to living to 100 years old Mercedes had this to say.
"I lead a really active life normally, you know I am very busy I always worked I worked till I was 89 years old," says Mchale.
The wellness director says he's witnessed two people here turn 100 years old and it's always a nice thing to see
"It's pretty warm to see especially when the families get involved and they participate with their birthdays such as today where they actually get into the dining room so that the residents see that their families are there for them," explained Robert Fenner the Wellness Director at Allied Terrance.
