SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Improvement projects to Lackawanna County's stormwater infrastructure are underway after deadly flooding last year.
Dozens of residents from the Keyser Valley section of Scranton attended a meeting to talk about those improvements at Thursday night's meeting.
The Keyser Valley section of Scranton was one of two neighborhoods impacted by the deadly September 9 flooding.
Lackawanna County Heritage Trail to expand
Officials say mitigation projects are underway after the city received approval in July for a grant to acquire and demolish a total of 18 homes and three vacant lots in Keyser Valley and north Scranton.
"The reason the city is now addressing these issues is more or less because they have the funds to do it. It's all about timing. It's always been a problem, it's just become an exasperated problem as time went on. Now the city realizes it and is addressing it," said Greenman-Pedersen Inc. Project Manager Paul Fish.
The city's ongoing investments for the project total more than $22,000,000, including over $7,000,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding.
