WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local organization that offers zero-percent interest mortgages to those in need has just got a huge helping hand on Saturday.
More than one hundred costumed participants were in Kingston for the Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity's Inaugural Halloween 5k Saturday morning.
The organization helps Partner Families who may not qualify for conventional mortgages.
Habitat for Humanity will use the proceeds to help fund materials and construction for building homes for their Partner Families.

Organizers say they hope to raise as much money as possible but one runner says there is another reason events like these are important.
"Events like this are a great way to get the community out, outside, get fresh air, and bring everyone together for a great cause. You know you just get to know your neighbor, and you cheer each other on, that's what community is all about," said Erin Kosisky a runner from Wilkes-Barre.
Event organizers say they're unsure exactly how much was raised a total count should be done by next week.
