Luzerne County voter registrations dropped off en masse considered valid

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce has released the findings of an investigation performed by his office after numerous public complaints about documents submitted to the Luzerne County Election Bureau by a former county employee.

Sanguedolce said Monday that the complaints ranged from allegations of thousands of voter registrations being submitted, to actual ballots being submitted to the election bureau.

The investigation revealed that between 20 and 30 voter registrations were dropped off at the Luzerne County Election Bureau by a former employee, Sanguedolce stated in a media release. That employee was not identified in the release.

Among the Luzerne County registrations were two for Lackawanna County and one for Monroe County. Some dating back to June of 2024. Sanguedolce said the Lackawanna and Monroe registrations were forwarded to the proper counties and noted they were submitted in time to be included in the upcoming General Election.

All of the Luzerne County registrations were valid and processed by the election bureau, Sanguedolce added.

He also stated that his office was aware of media reports of election fraud in Lancaster County, where the board of elections there announced staff members identified approximately 2,500 suspected fraudulent voter registration applications that were dropped off at the county election office.

The Lancaster County District Attorney said two other counties may have been targeted and she reached out to officials, but Sanguedolce noted that Luzerne County was not one of them and they found no connection to the fraudulent documents.

“We intend to investigate all incidents alleging any type of fraud in our election processor any threats against our election workers,” District Attorney Sanguedolce said. “Secure andfair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, and we will pursue anyone endeavoring tounlawfully interfere with the process or the people responsible for carrying out that process.”
