Monroe County investigating alleged voter fraud

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 28/22 News is learning more on Wednesday about an ongoing voter fraud investigation in Monroe County.

That investigation centers on about 30 voter registration and mail-in ballot applications that were red-flagged as fraudulent.

Monroe County election officials tell 28/22 News they noticed a pattern of fraudulent information.

In one case, the voter application form was filled out with the name of a person who is deceased.

"The system works..that's plain and simple..the system works," said John Christy, County Commissioner and Chairman of the Monroe County Election Board.

That's the ultimate goal, so says Monroe County election officials.

They flagged about 30 voter registration and mail-in ballot applications.

"I noticed right away when they came in. They were mailed to us the applications and they were dated beginning in June some were dated in July some were dated in August some were in September. For somebody to hold on to voter registration applications that long, it just wasn't right to me," said Sara May Silfee, Director Of Elections/Voter Registration.

She noticed other issues.

"There were discrepancies. People voted and canceled here already. The one person was deceased," May-Silfee explained.

So they immediately contacted the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, which launched an investigation.

The DA announced Tuesday they are focusing on a company named Field and Media, a subsidiary of Fieldcorps, an Arizona-based organization working out of Lancaster County.

Along with human eyes checking out the paperwork, computers also verify the submitted voter information.

"We have a number of checks and balances in place, the fact that somebody thinks they, they can circumvent it, it's not true," Christy said.

Voters 28/22 News spoke with are concerned about the attempted fraud but happy it was caught.

"We want a fair election. It doesn't matter who wins as long as we can prevent somehow this fraud," said Stroudsburg resident Lisa Grisoscolo.

28/22 News reached out to Fieldcorps for comment on this investigation and has not heard back.
