DALTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— It was a feast for the birds at an animal sanctuary in Lackawanna County Saturday.
Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Dalton hosted its 13th annual Feast for the birds.
It is the sanctuary's biggest fundraiser.
Indraloka means 'heaven for the gods' and it's situated on 100 acres of sprawling hills as hundreds of rescued farm animals call it home.
Hundreds of people gathered on this crisp saturday as a flock of turkeys, chickens and even goats enjoyed a buffet meal of fruits, veggies and berries. Kids in attendance helped feed the animals by hand.
"I think it's important to focus on gratitude that the turkeys are facing this time of year. It's tough, many are being raised in factory farms they do t have any kindness in their lives. 14 million will be killed in a couple of weeks. Each one of them has a life they enjoy living," voiced founder of Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, Indra Iahiri.
"Overall it's a fun time, to be able to feed the animals , hold them, touch them it's really soothing," said 14-year-old Waverly resident Alec Weinberger.
After the feast for the birds, the attendees got to enjoy a vegan buffet under a decorative tent. A band entertained the crowd.
The event also included a live auction and basket raffles.
