One firefighter injured after battling blaze in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— One fire fighter was injured after battling a Sunday morning blaze in Wilkes-Barre.

Multiple units were called to Carey Avenue at around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning for a reported structure fire.

According to Chief Jay Delaney, crews were called to the former Master Chemical Products on Carey Avenue for a structure fire.

When on-scene, units found heavy smoke inside the building with smoke coming from the roof.

The size of the building brought a third alarm activation and additional units from Kingston/Forty Fort Fire Department, Hanover Township Fire Department as well as off-duty firefighters for extra manpower.

Crews used an aerial ladder to get firefighters to the roof , and vent holes were cut to access the fire to clear smoke out of the structure.

Officials say that venting the roof was demanding and time-consuming due to the thickness of the roof and battling the falling fiery debris from inside the building.

Crews were on-scene for around three hours.

One firefighter was injured, but officials could not comment on his condition.
