10 year old makes name for herself in NEPA

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A 10-year-old girl from Luzerne County is making a name for herself, not just here in our community but across the nation.

In this week's Here's to You Kid, 28/22 News Reporter Jagne introduces us to the little tennis star.

10-year-old Mya Anyan practicing with her dad who is a big part of why she plays.

"I started playing tennis when I was five on the court and holding a racket when I was three my dad also played tennis too and his dad trained him so that's also why I'm playing tennis too," Mya said.

Mya is currently ranked 86 in the United States for girls 12 and under and the number 1 fifth grader in Pennsylvania.

"I enjoy the competition because it's like fun like really fun doing that and getting to play against other kids and you can also make friends once you're done playing," Mya continued.

Throughout her time in the spotlight, she has earned some impressive titles.

"I also played like these called a Little Mode Tournament. I won the regional and national ones so those ones are pretty big trophies," Mya explained.

Mya has accomplished so much at such a young age.

She's also gotten to meet some pretty influential people.

Like Olympian Coco Gauff and professional tennis player Frances Tiafoe just to name a few.

Mya is also in a Google commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, but it doesn't end there.

She is also sponsored by Wilsons and Lucky in Love.

Mya offers this advice to other young kids who think things they are interested in are out of reach.

"I would say work hard train the best you can and have big dreams," Mya added.

Mya already has plans for when she grows up.

"I wanna be a professional tennis player. I wanna be number one in the world," Mya stated.

Maya is getting ready to compete in hard court nationals at the end of November.

Here's to you, Mya!
