EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Republican nominee Rob Bresnahan Jr. is claiming victory in the battle with incumbent Democrat Matt Cartwright in Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District.

Early Wednesday morning, Bresnahan claimed victory in the congressional race.
Bresnahan is a political newcomer to Washington but he says he is ready to deliver results for NEPA.
The Republican successfully unseated his opponent Democrat Matt Cartwright, who has served since 2013.
Bresnahan is a businessman and developer, who was born and raised in NEPA.
We had a chance to catch up with him on Wednesday afternoon.

He plans to be heavily involved in the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in Congress.
He says he is ready to get to work and focus on the priorities he's been running his campaign on.
"We want an economy that works we want borders that are secure and we want communities that are safe, but those are gonna be the paramounts of the way that I intend to legislate in Washington DC," Bresnahan said.
Late Tuesday night Rep. Matt Cartwright congratulated his opponent, Rob Bresnahan, and conceded in the race to represent Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District. Rep. Cartwright stated:
“I am so proud of the campaign that we ran, and proud that we gave voice to the issues that matter most to northeastern Pennsylvanians. In this close race, our volunteers and supporters gave their all to make their voices heard."
Congressman Cartwright issued a statement and thanked his supporters.
"I know this is not the result we hoped for, but it has been the honor of my life to represent our community in Congress. I am so proud of everything we've been able to deliver for Northeastern Pennsylvania"
