PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Local students are preparing to give a sweet treat to those who have served this Veterans Day weekend.
Students at Wilkes Barre Area's Career Technology Center in Plains Township are busy baking cookies to make trays to hand out to local VFWs.
More than 1,900 cookies have been made by the staff and students so far.
Everything from chocolate chip to sugar cookies will go onto the trays.
Honoring veterans ahead of Veterans Day in Monroe County
VFWs in Wyoming, Luzerne, and Lackawanna counties will receive a tray of 60 homemade cookies.
"So this is the second or third year that we're baking cookies for the veterans. Prior to that, we were acknowledging them with other accolades. It's just a way for the students to give back to the community and show our respect to the people who've served for our country. ," Wilkes Barre Area CTC Career Technology Center Culinary Instructor Chef Dan Panaway stated.
"I love them. I mean, our culinary works really hard preparing, so we appreciate that as well," said Old Forge High School Senior Ashlynn Vernon.
Students will deliver the cookie trays on Friday so each VFW post has a tray for the Veterans Day weekend.
