WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — We have all heard of businesses and organizations hosting holiday food drives, but how about a couple of podcasters?
Work does not happen just from nine to five for Kevin Kaskey and Darrian Tyson, co-hosts of the Go Getters podcast.
Walking around Public Square in Wilkes-Barre they are planning their ‘Go Getters podcast third annual Thanksgiving food drive’ as the sun comes up.
“We figured that we can you know be the start and the drive in this city and kind of raise the bar ourselves for people in the future to hopefully do more,” said Kaskey.
What started as just an idea as part of their long-form talk show podcast led to the pair shopping, cooking for, and feeding hundreds of people for Thanksgiving the last two years.
“We were able to have really good conversations with them, we were really able to feel their vibe and energy and it was really cool. It was awesome to be able to connect with them like that,” said Tyson.
This year their goal has doubled, hoping to raise $6,500 and feed 600 people in the community.
“It makes me feel grateful that I’m able to do something like this, that I’m in the position to be able to do something like this,” said Tyson.
Not only teaming up with friends, family, and local businesses the pair, who both work in the education system, say they’re also partnering with the Wilkes-Barre Area School District.
“We’re not really just guessing that this will help, I do know and see on a firsthand basis how much these meals will affect the city, especially the kids in the school district,” said Kaskey.
Nearly two weeks out from Thanksgiving, they are in need of food and monetary donations to achieve this year’s goal.
The Go Getters podcast food drive giveaway will be happening here on the square on Wednesday, November 27th from 12 to 8 p.m.
