KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Well-deserved recognition on Tuesday for those working to fight childhood hunger in NEPA.
The program, Dinners for Kids, had its annual event at the Jewish Community Center in Kingston.
28/22 News Moring Anchor Kelly Byrne was a guest speaker at the event.
The program was founded by Edna and David Tevet out of a need to help end childhood hunger in the Wyoming Valley.
Dinners for Kids is able to feed around 240 kids across the Wilkes-Barre, West Side, and Dallas areas.

The program was started in 2011 and has grown. They now deliver around 75,000 meals annually.
"My wife and I, we owned Ollie's restaurant at the time, and somehow we got interested in childhood hunger. We researched what's happening, why, how come there's still children hungry in the United States. We found out that, somehow, the children, for one reason or another, don't get a decent meal at home," David explained.
"There's always a couple of kids who pop out and they're like thank you thank you so much. Which is very gratifying for me, but it's also startling at how much need there is,' said Dinners For Kids Delivery Driver Michael Last.
The organization is 100% volunteer-run.
