5th Annual Festival of Trees opens in Schuylkill Haven

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The fifth annual Festival of Trees opened Saturday in Schuylkill Haven.

20 trees decorated by Schuylkill County nonprofits are on display in the main gallery at the Walk in Arts Center.

The public can get involved by voting for their favorite festive display. People can vote online or in person.

Votes cost $1 each with proceeds shared by the center and the nonprofits.

The executive director of the Walk in Art Center, Jacqueline Engel, says the best part is when people bring their kids in.

"We give them five, $1 voting money. We call it looks like Monopoly play money, and then the kids go around and they choose their favorite it's a really great way to introduce kids to philanthropy and supporting organizations that do a lot of good in the community," said Engel.

The nonprofit with the most popular tree receives $200.
