NEWPORT TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A fire engine dedication was held at the Newport Township Fire Department Tuesday afternoon.
Congressman Dan Meuser joined the fire department for the dedication of the New Pierce Saber Pumper.
Congressman Meuser advocated for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant which helped buy the truck.
The new fire engine was put into service on October 5.

It enhances the safety of first responders and residents while equipping the department with modern capabilities.
"Well, we gotta put the fires out so in order to do that we need reliable apparatus and we certainly have that now with something that was lacking. And we're happy to better serve our community with this for years to come," said Firefighter Kyle Gruber.
"We knew there was a strong need here in Newport Township for an updated and modern fire truck and we went to work. Fortunately, we were able to come through with the funding," Congressman Meuser said.
The new truck replaced the department's 45-year-old one.
