SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The season of giving is alive and well as volunteers helped families in need this holiday.
Thanks to the communities generosity hundreds of families will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
It's an annual holiday tradition. Handing out thousands of turkeys to families in need. The Family-to-Family Drive-Thru Food Basket Giveaway is stationed at the Scranton Cultural Center.
People lined up in person on North Washington Avenue or around a block or two in their cars.
"We started at 8:15 a.m. because we were set up and traffic has unfortunately been a little bit crazy," said Linda Robeson, director of the Family-to-Family Drive-Thru Food Basket Program.
In its 38th year this year, the program was bigger than ever. Feeding 4,000 families, an additional 500 turkey and food baskets than years past costing $129,000.

"It has become a tradition for so many of the volunteers, especially to come here year after year," stated Robeson.
Back to volunteer for their 12th year, staff at Colbert & Grebas Elder Law were hard at work with their families. Bagging the holiday fixings indoors.
"Well, this does your heart good and they do need to help. It is an awesome undertaking and we enjoy being here every year" explained Louise Ligi, of Colbert & Grebas.
Outside, we found many other local organizations pitching in to get a turkey or two and bags of groceries into cars.
"We have about 10-15 cadets coming out and packing bags packing cars with turkeys and we're just out here having a good time making people feel good" stated Kiersten Derr, of Lackawanna College Police Academy.
"It's important because people need to understand that it's a holiday or about giving back and being with family and everybody has family," expressed Amy Heskell, president of Most Wanted Social Club.
Making for a successful start to the holiday season.
