UGI increasing gas rates almost 9% in December

(WBRE/WYOU) — UGI Utilities has announced they will increase rates on purchased natural gas beginning on December 1st.

Starting in December, UGI Utilities says that residential customers will see their bills increase 8.7%.

This would raise the average customer's bill from $95.40 per month, to $103.69 per month, UGI noted in its announcement.

"UGI continues to work to find the lowest cost supply options for our customers. This increase reflects the general rise in wholesale natural gas supply prices," Chief Regulatory Officer Paul Szykman said. "Despite this increase, natural gas continues to be a clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy choice for homes and businesses."

UGI says customers with limited or fixed incomes who are struggling to pay their bill can visit their website, or call 1-800-UGI-WARM to determine if they qualify for assistance.

They also encourage their customers to use energy wisely and offer energy efficiency tips and programs.
