SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The holiday season is in full swing, and the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton is making spirits bright with its 7th Annual Trim a Tree Challenge.
This year's Trim A Tree theme, Fantasy Worlds, is bringing some magical creativity to life, with trees decorated by students from across Lackawanna County.
Visitors can step back in time with the museum's historic displays while also stepping into different fantasy worlds, all brought to life by beautifully decorated trees
"We have the local schools of Lackawanna County come in and they all decorate the trees in there. Whatever the theme happens to be, this year is Fantasy Worlds," said Electric City Trolley Museum Gift Shop Coordinator Kellie Lydon.
With 21 trees all jazzed up by local students, visitors can dive into the world of Narnia, follow the yellow brick road, or even check to see if their Hogwarts letter has finally arrived.
"We have the best time watching them enjoy themselves making up the tree. There's a lot of kids out there where creativity is their thing, maybe they're not gonna do gym but they're gonna do art and this is a wonderful way to show that off," Lydon explained.
The community gets to play a role too. Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite tree, whether it's the land of Whoville or a stop in Wonderland.
Spruce Ridge Reindeer Farm busy ahead of Christmas
"We want everyone to come we want everyone to participate in this wonderful event, this does help the schools monetarily they win real nice prizes 1st through 4th and so it's just a great way for everyone to have a wonderful time," Lydon continued.
Tickets to explore the museum and the fantasy trees are just $3 per person. It runs until December 27.
The winning tree will be announced on December 28.
