Traffic flowing again after hours long standstill on Interstate 81

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Traffic is now on the move after an hours-long standstill in both directions of Interstate 81 on Monday.

Shortly before 12:00 a.m., 511PA.com cameras showed traffic clearing up near mile marker 149 near Drums.

Authorities told 28/22 News officials were called to the area of Mile Marker 153 for a reported crash.

28/22 News crews were there Monday evening and saw snow cover the roads as vehicles were at a standstill on both north and southbound lanes.

Both directions of the highway appeared to be covered in a coating of fresh snow.

According to 28/22 News crews on scene, the backup appeared to extend through at least two-mile markers.

Pennsylvania State Police said there were minor fender benders at Exit 151 near Butler Township but there were no injuries reported.

A salt truck arrived on the scene at the southbound lane at about 9:15 p.m.

Cold weather, snow showers expected this week in NEPA

PennDOT says the speed limit was reduced to 45 miles per hour from Exit 151B West Bloomsburg to Exit 141 Greater Hazelton because of the winter weather.
