PECKVILLE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The days leading up to Christmas are always merry and bright at one Lackawanna County home.
It’s like the North Pole but in Lackawanna County.
The Peckville Christmas house is lit for another season, ready to welcome those to enjoy thousands of dazzling lights.

“There’s close to 3,500 blow molds out on display now,” said Matt Harhut, owner, Peckville Christmas House.
The Harhut’s have been behind the display for more than 20 years, first starting to put lights on the roof as kids.
“That wasn’t really allowed by our parents, I snuck up there on the roof one day with the ladder. I remember the wind blew the ladder down, I was stuck up on the roof,” said Matt Harhut.
Now, the display has grown with them, always searching for new decorations to add to their collection.
“There’s still a lot of blow molds out there that we don’t have that we’re looking for.” said Matt Harhut.
Set up begins in late August, and it’s no walk in the park.
“Putting this display up is more of a science, believe it or not, more than anything,” said Jeff Harhut, Peckville Christmas House.
It’s a family affair, needing all the extra hands they can get as they welcome and bring the inner kid out of thousands of people from the region, and across the world.
“Memories that they’ve had. Blow molds that they’ve had at their homes when they were younger,” continued Mindy Harhurt, Peckville Christmas House, “it’s not just about us, it’s about them! Taking people back to the importance of the holidays and spending time with family and friends.”
Families can get involved in activities at the Christmas display like this photobooth and even search for specific blow molds in a scavenger hunt. Looking for an ET, an energizer bunny, and even a watermelon.
The Christmas house is lit Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m.
But come January 7 when it’s done, we asked where does it all go?
“We used to store a little bit in my basement, a little bit in my brother’s attic. My other brother took stuff in his basement, a little bit everywhere. But a few years ago we built a big garage offsite and we store everything in one place.” said Jeff Harhut.
To help with the crowds the family behind the Peckville Christmas House says guests are asked to park at the Sacred Heart Church on Mott Street.
