I-80 reopened after multi-vehicle crash in Clinton County

CLINTON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Traffic was at a standstill and parts of Interstate 80 were closed after a crash involving multiple tractor-trailers and other vehicles on Wednesday night.

Authorities told 28/22 News the Sugar Valley Fire Department and Pennsylvania State Police Lamar were called to the area of Exit 199 on Interstate 80 Westbound around 6:00 p.m. for a crash involving almost 10 tractor-trailers and three to four passenger vehicles.

Officials say there were several injuries reported, but there is no word at this time on their severity.

PennDOT also announced Interstate 80 Westbound was closed between mile marker 212, Interstate 180 interchange/Williamsport, in Northumberland County to mile marker 178, Route 220 interchange, in Clinton County. I-80 Westbound is now open again.

In addition to the closures, PennDOT also issued a temporary speed limit reduction to 45 miles per hour on the following roadways.

Interstate 80 Eastbound and Westbound between exits 97/DuBois-Brockway in Clearfield County and 212B/I-380-Williamsport in Northumberland County

Interstate 99 Northbound and Southbound between exits 52/Bald Eagle-Philipsburg in Blair County and the end of the expressway at Route 26.

Drivers are urged by PennDOT to avoid unnecessary travel.

Commercial vehicles not impacted by the restrictions must move to the right lane on roadways with speed restrictions.
