Kids team up with officials in Heroes and Helpers event in Dickson City

DICKSON CITY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Kids had the opportunity to go shopping with heroes on Thursday in Dickson City.

Thursday was the 10th annual Heroes and Helpers Event where kids from the mid-valley got paired up with either a police officer, local firefighters, or EMS worker to get their family Christmas presents.

The goal of the event is to bridge the gap between local law enforcement and children of the community.

Snowmen of Stroudsburg made seasonal debut

"It's nice because when we come out here to shop with them they are seeing us in a good light, positive vibes when we are here and they get a sense that first responders are people and not just a uniform," said Bruce Beauvais, Operations Manager at PA Ambulance.

"I want to be a police officer," Helper Maya Jonson explained.

"Are you excited for Christmas?" 28/22 News Photographer Kelly Egrie asked.

"Yeah!" Jonson replied.

They had a pizza party before shopping and even a visit from Santa.
