Snow Squall Warning issued for multiple counties in NEPA

(WBRE/WYOU) — As people are waking up and clearing snow off of their cars and sidewalks, the National Weather Service at Binghamton has issued a Snow Squall Warning for several counties.

The warning includes Lackawanna, Wayne, Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Luzerne counties. Around 8:40 a.m., "a dangerous snow squall was located over Elmhurst, or near Scranton, moving east at 45 mph," the NWS reported.

The National Weather Service defines a snow squall as "an intense short-lived burst of heavysnowfall that leads to a quick reduction in visibilities and is often accompanied by gusty winds. They may be characterized by one main squall or multiple squalls."

The Snow Squall Warning is in effect until 9:15 a.m. You can stay current on all Weather Alerts and track storm systems on our Interactive Radar.
