Froggy 101’s Country Cares radiothon for St. Jude Kids

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY — The holiday season is a time for giving, and one local radio show is raising tens of thousands of dollars for seriously ill children and their families.

The bells are ringing in the Froggy 101 studio in Pittston Township Friday, marking off money raised for its Country Cares radiothon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Just imagining you’re going into the holidays now and your son, your daughter, your baby is in the hospital somewhere and you don’t know what the outcome’s going to be so you want people like St. Jude on your side,” said Doc Medek, co-host, ‘The Doc Show’ Froggy 101.

The ‘Doc Show’ already raised $30,000 dollars in the two-day event by listeners donating $19 dollars a month to become a ‘partner in hope.’

“They take care of your airfare to get there, your lodging, your food, all of that is taken care of through the donations that we get,” said Doc Medek.

Both success stories and legacies of those who lost their battles to cancer are shared. Putting the realities of the world into perspective.

“We’re worried about all of these small things every single day. ‘did I get my coffee this morning?’ and that’s the end of the world sometimes for some people and these parents are just trying to figure out tomorrow. Will there be a tomorrow and then you put yourself in the shoes of the kids, the ones that are actually at St. Jude that need the help? They can’t rely on tomorrow,” said Chewy Medek, co-host, ‘The Doc Show’ froggy 101.

Since opening 50 years ago St. Jude has more than 80 percent of childhood cancer survival rate.

To become a partner in hope you can call to sign up, receive a free t-shirt, sweatshirt, and know that you’re helping in the fight to end childhood cancer.

The event runs through 7 p.m. and Froggy 101 has already raised nearly $32,000.

They plan to put together a plaque with the names of all those who donated this year.
