Lackawanna County Winter Market kicks off

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The holiday season is starting in downtown Scranton this weekend with the Lackawanna County winter market.

The 7th annual Lackawanna Winter Market just kicked off to bring all the holiday magic to downtown Scranton.

This weekend Courthouse Square transforms into a winter wonderland with 50 vendors, there's something for everyone unique crafts, delicious treats, and the perfect gifts for your loved ones

"I think what's nice about it is we're promoting local, it's about shopping locally and enjoying your community the Courthouse Square is beautiful, you know you can sit home and shop online but that's not the same," said Maureen McGuigan, Director of Arts and Culture, Lackawanna County.

You'll feel like you're stepping into a holiday movie with caroling, free hot chocolate, and even horse-drawn carriage rides.

Snowmen of Stroudsburg made seasonal debut

"That what's great about the holidays is that you just feel good when you see decorations so we light the big tree, we have horse and carriage rides tonight, so it is we try to have that charming kind of old-timey feel but with a modern twist," continued McGuigan.

New this year you can warm up & catch festive performances at the holiday lodge.

"I mean part of the fun is cause it's chilly but you do need to warm up so we're excited about that and that's where all the entertainment is we even have a little excerpt of a ballet, we have theater, we have musicians, we have free hot cider," stated McGuigan.

Plus the Festival of Trees is back, showcasing creative decorations from across the community while supporting toys for tots.

"All kinds of community organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals, sponsor a tree and the money goes to Toys for Tots, and we always pick a theme, because we have a contest so it's really amazing, this year's theme is cartoon Christmas," added McGuigan.

The market will close Friday night at 9:00 p.m. but it's open all weekend long, so there's plenty of time to stop by and enjoy the holiday cheer.
