Fighting back one pink pierogi at a time

BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The community is rallying behind a local woman battling breast cancer one pink pierogi at a time.

More than 200 dozen pink pierogies were sold Saturday in Berwick to benefit Kim Nespoli and her family.

Nespoli was diagnosed with breast cancer eight years ago and beat the disease only for it to come back and spread.

All of the proceeds will be going towards her medical bills. The pierogies were made by Mom and Pop's Pierogies in Wilkes-Barre.

You may be asking, why "pink" pierogies?

"Because breast cancer. Everyone associates it with pink, and we just thought it would be something different, something fun for everyone," said Angela DiPippa, a friend of Kim's and the event coordinator.

Benefit organizers say they expect to raise over $1,000 for Nespoli, as they far surpassed their original goal of selling only 100 dozen.
