4 hospitalized after Hazle Township crash

HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Four people were hospitalized after a crash on State Route 940 in Hazle Township on Sunday.

Officials told 28/22 News the Hazle Township Fire and Rescue and Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) were called to the 1400 block of Route after a reported crash at around 1:00 p.m.

According to the Hazle Township Fire and Rescue, when crews arrived on scene, they found three vehicles were involved in the crash and two people were entrapped in one vehicle.

The first entrapped person was taken out of the vehicle in 15 minutes, officials said.

It took 30 minutes to pull the second person out after crews used hydraulic tools to remove the roof and the doors, and performed a dash lift.

After being pulled from their vehicle, officials say the entrapped people and two others were taken from the scene to nearby trauma centers.

Officials say PSP and their construction units are investigating the incident.
