8-year-old killed in Hanover Twp. shooting

HANOVER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are currently investigating a deadly shooting early Monday in Hanover Township that killed an 8-year-old.

The Hanover Township Police Department stated they are investigating what led to the deadly shooting of an eight-year-old girl on Fellows Avenue.

Police say the shooting occurred around 3:00 a.m., December 9 in the 500 block of Fellows Avenue in Hanover Township.

"That's really not like this area at all. There's a lot of playgrounds a lot of schools and stuff. It caught me off guard a little bit I guess, it's very quiet," said Autumn Bullek, a neighbor.

"Everybody is good on my street down. I don't know the whole place. I know it's getting run down and everyone is not taking care of houses and stuff," said Joe Ropietski.

Sources of the case stated the victim attended the Hanover Area School District. The superintendent of schools is offering support to anyone in the district who needs it.

The Hanover Area School District also released the following statement after the fatal shooting:
