SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A nonprofit in Lackawanna County has a call out to the community to make sure every child has a gift to open on Christmas morning.
It’s like Santa’s workshop in the Electric City.
"I really like the Charlie Brown plushie.” continued Daniel Cusick, volunteer, Christmas Miracles From Heaven, “it’s the best holiday ever."
Christmas brings out the kid in everybody around the holiday season - but for the ‘Christmas Miracles From Heaven’ nonprofit in Scranton, they are taking over the big guy’s role, giving out these gifts to kids in need.
"My mom passed away seven years ago and she just loved Christmas and she loved giving back and helping anyone in need, so when my mom passed away we figured we wanted to keep her memory alive," said Amy Cusick, president/founder, of Christmas Miracles From Heaven.
“I was very close with my grandmother, so carrying on her legacy means a lot to me,” Heather Anderson, vice president/co-founder, of Christmas Miracles From Heaven.
The family runs the behind-the-scenes of the nonprofit organizing the gifts donated by the community to be handed out to more than 90 families in Lackawanna County.
Founder Amy Cusick says she’s thankful to give back, knowing the feeling of facing hardship a few years back.

"I wasn’t sure how I was going to give Christmas to my kids and a lot of my friends came along and you know, they did what they had to do for me and I’m very thankful for that and they never asked for anything in return so this is kind of my way of giving back to those in need. My way of giving thanks," said Amy Cusick.
Members of the community can either sponsor a family or donate new or gently used gifts all before the deadline of Sunday, December 15th.
"I think that as long as we’re able to keep it going with community support, I think we’ll be able to do it and help as many kids as we can," said Emma Anderson, secretary/co-founder, of Christmas Miracles From Heaven.
Leaving those asking for help speechless.
"She’s like, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m just so overwhelmed. You have no idea what this means to me. Come to find out she has a 3-month-old that she didn’t even register for so we’re going to surprise and we’re going to have some gifts for her little 3-month-old as well," said Amy Cusick
The nonprofit is also accepting monetary donations to fulfill local children’s wishlists. You can find more information on Facebook at Christmas Miracles From Heaven.
