Two charged after undercover drug sting in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Two people are facing charges after police say an undercover drug sting in Scranton led to a detective vehicle getting struck.

According to the Scranton Police Department, on December 9 officers were working on a drug investigation where a confidential informant (CI) was set to buy fentanyl from Renardo Sims, 42, a Bloods gang member.

Police stated Sims sells drugs out of a Jeep Cherokee driven by his wife, 23-year-old Mlyce Carter.

Two juveniles charged after multiple cars stolen

Once the CI finished the drug transaction police tried to pull over Sims and Carter, boxing the Jeep in, however, Carter put the Jeep in reverse and smashed into an undercover detective's car, as stated in the affidavit.

Investigators said Sims refused to leave the car and was eventually taken to the ground during his arrest. While in custody Sims admitted to selling fentanyl to the informant, police reported.

Both Sims and Carter were searched and officers say they seized two phones, $119 in cash, and 2.3 grams of fentanyl in a plastic bag.

Carter and Sims face various drug-selling-related charges. The two remain in Lackawanna County Prison on a $100,000 and $50,000 bail.
