Drone sightings are on the rise in northeastern Pennsylvania. Just about every hour 28/22 News received reports of supposed drones being spotted in our region.

The Poconos appears to be a drone hot spot in recent days.

Just last night a woman spotted the mysterious flying objects over Brodheadsville.

Also today, Governor Shapiro (D) talked about what Pennsylvania is doing in response to these drones.

28/22 News I-team Reporter Andy Mehalshick is working the story and joins us live in studio.

This mystery is really taking on a life of its own. Due in large part to the fact that nobody, including high ranking U.S. Government officials know what's going on.

This video was taken by Jacki Vanderhoef in Brodheadsville Thursday night at around 9:30 p.m.

"It was definitely drones. We went out to look thinking we weren't actually going to see anything or it was people seeing airplanes. We were utterly shocked. There was definitely a drone going overhead," stated Vanderhoef.

Vanderhoef has been a pilot for more than 25 years, and has seen all kinds of strange things in the sky.

She and some pilot friends of her will be taking to the skies this weekend to try to track them down.

"We'll be above their levels they appear to be at, but we might get a different perspective on them and I got a friend with some night vision so we thought we'd take that along. See what we see," said Vanderhoef.

"We're obviously aware of the drones. We're taking them very seriously," expressed Governor Shapiro (D).

Governor Josh Shapiro (D) was in Scranton on Friday at a business event. He also talked about what Pennsylvania is doing to try to solve the drone mystery.

"I've directed Colonel Paris of the Pennsylvania State Police to look into it further. I know they'll be flying helicopters to try and determine where the drones are originating from and what the purpose of these drones are. We've been carrying out exercises and we'll be doling more this evening as well," said Governor Shapiro (D).

The I-team also spoke with Dr. John Duesler. He is a drone expert and founder of the pilot mind drone academy based in Pittston. He's confident the mystery will be solved.

"I can tell you this, we will find out eventually. It might be sooner, it might be later but the FAA, all the local officials, they're going to get the information they need. We'll know who's flying the drones, and we'll know where they're flying the drones. That's the take home message for this and that's the key," explained Dr. Duesler.

Dr. Duesler says all drones have an electronic foot print. That should help investigator solve this mystery.
