SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The holiday spirit of giving is on full display in Scranton this weekend.
Saint Francis of Assisi Kitchen hosted its annual shoe box project today.
More than two dozen teen volunteers took part.
They filled more than 200 shoeboxes with donated items including shampoo and conditioner, body wash and deodorant, and razors and socks.
The shoe boxes were gift wrapped and will be distributed to those who visit the kitchen for a meal on Christmas Day.
"One of the exciting things about this program is we're engaging young people in the mission of the kitchen, how fantastic is that," stated Executive Director of St. Francis Assisi Kitchen, Rob Williams.
"My family and I have been doing this every year. It's a great tradition to be a part of. It feels really good that I got to give back to the community and volunteer. I really like packing presents for people, it makes my Christmas a lot brighter," said Wyoming Seminary freshman, Alec Weinberger.
Donated items are being accepted right now such as hats, gloves, jeans, and boots.
